Did You Know?

Since April, 2016, the Battleford’s Affordable Housing and Homelessness Committee has been providing a forum for housing providers to come together to discuss their needs, their ongoing and upcoming projects, and their ideas for potential partnerships with other groups in the community.

The Battlefords Affordable Housing and Homelessness Committee aims to develop, coordinate, and provide ongoing administrative services in order to help create partnerships between local affordable housing organizations, homeless shelters, the City of North Battleford, the Prairie North Health Region, the R.C.M.P., the Friendship Centre, and any other organizations that might be involved with homelessness, housing first, transitional housing, supportive housing, etc.

Partnerships

The Battlefords Affordable Housing and Homelessness Committee initiative was created to allow Liana Clinton, Manager for the Metis Urban Housing Association of Saskatchewan Inc. (MUHAS), to provide coordination and administrative services as well as acting as a liaison between groups to develop, maintain, and grow partnerships to address homelessness.

 Capacity Building

Administrative services may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Partnership development in support of a housing first approach.
  • Working with the housing sector to identify opportunities for, and barriers to, permanent housing.
  • Coordination of resources to identify, integrate, and improve services within, and between, housing services providers involved in the committee.
  • Consultation, coordination, and planning within the committee as well as providing capacity building and assistance in those areas for the housing service providers involved in the committee.
  • Creating accessibility of information and resources, for both service providers and the general public, through online resources such as Dropbox and the MUHAS website.
  • Providing support services to the groups who are providing housing placement, income support, life skills development, education, etc.
  • Assistance with drafting proposals for grants and funding for any of the housing service providers, or groups working in partnerships, to purchase or replace appliances, furniture, equipment, and/or vehicles, etc.

The Battlefords Affordable Housing and Homelessness Committee is brought to you by the Metis Urban Housing Association of Saskatchewan Inc. with the generous support of the Homelessness Partnering Strategy.
